Is a computer science degree worth it in 2024?

In my data science program, I had a study group member who was honestly lazy and just wanted to use ChatGPT and Claude AI for everything. I got tired of him asking and said, “You know what? Let’s do it” to prove a point to him. This was for a data engineering assignment that used a lot of SQL. So we put everything in that would be needed and asked both ChatGPT and Claude AI to figure out the solution.

You’ll hear a lot about AI from people who, quite frankly, don’t really know that much about it. They’ll try to scare you out of a CS degree by saying things like, “Oh, AI will take over that job sooner than later.” While that could be true at some point, we’re not at that point just yet.

A2A. I’m answering this in 2025, but I would say “Yes, it still is worth it.”

I am upper middle class and study at the London School of economics and Finance (economics and Finance). I am 18 years old. What are my chances of becoming a billionaire?

The result? The AI-generated code would not work. We even went through and made the code match our already determined variable names. Still would not work.

Even if AI could do those things for us, who’s going to work on maintaining code for AI? We will still need people on the back end to ensure that nothing is glitching or broken. Hence, CS is totally still worth it. Plus, you will not be able to have AI just generate an entire piece of software complete with a GUI just yet. Don’t let the naysayers scare you.
